This juice is pure decadence. Zesty citrus is balanced by sweet carrots and beets; ginger and sage add pleasing earthy texture. Sage contains flavonoids, volatile oils and phenolic acids, which have anti-inflammatory properties.
As part of a diet containing plenty of plant foods, sage may help to temper the inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis, bronchial asthma and even atherosclerosis. Sage also contains antioxidant enzymes and works to improve brain function.
Ingredients
4 carrots 4
1 lemon, peeled and halved 1
1/4 beet, halved 1/4
1 orange, peeled and halved 1
1/4 cup lightly packed fresh sage leaves 60 mL
1 1/4-inch (0.5 cm) piece peeled gingerroot 1
Instructions
1. Using a juicer, process half each of the carrots, lemon, beet, orange and sage, plus the ginger.
2. Following the same order, repeat with the remaining carrots, lemon, beet, orange and sage.
3. Whisk well and serve immediately.
